NoodleCast #95: Interview with Jonathan Hoenig on Labor Day

Sep 062011

On Monday, Jonathan Hoenig of Capitalist Pig interviewed me on WLS 890 AM of Chicago about the meaning of Labor Day and the role of the mind in production. (He was acting as a substitute host.)

It was the first radio interview that I’ve done, and I hope the first of many. While I see much room for improvement, I’m darn pleased with how it went. Many thanks to Jonathan Hoenig!

NoodleCast #86: Interview with Ari Armstrong about Harry Potter

Jul 132011

Yesterday, I sat down with Ari Armstrong to discuss the Harry Potter novels, given that the final movie will be released this week. As you might already know, Ari is the author of the excellent (and recently expanded) book Values of Harry Potter.

Here are the questions that we discussed:

  • How good can we expect the final movie to be, given the franchise’s history?
  • Why do so many people love Harry Potter?
  • What are the basic values promoted by the novels?
  • Are the Potter books religious?
  • What are the psychological themes of the Potter books?
  • What are the political themes?

Then, on a more personal note:

  • What character do you most identify with? Why?
  • What characters do you most admire? Why?
  • What scene from the books most captures your imagination? Why?
  • What do you say to someone reluctant to read the books?

Beware: The interview contains some major spoilers, so don’t listen to it unless you’ve read all the books.

Bonus Footage from My Stephen Bailey Interview

Oct 142010

I’ve added some bonus footage to my interview with Stephen Bailey. Stephen Bailey, as you might recall, is the Republican candidate for US House of Representatives for Colorado’s Second District. He’s also the only political candidate I’ve ever been able to support, wholeheartedly and without reservation.

Here’s the bonus segment, where Stephen is joined by his lovely wife Reiko:

You can find the full set of videos — as well as the audio-only podcast of the main interview — via this page.
