For the past few days, I’ve been having horrible problems with my computer becoming ever-more slow. By yesterday, it would sometimes take a minute to populate each new menu level on the Start Menu. (Oddly, the Task Manager didn’t show anything sucking up CPU or memory.) Also, certain programs suddenly broke all at the same time: my GTD add-in for Outlook, iTunes, and GoogleTalk. Reinstallations didn’t help. A virus scan revealed nothing.
So yesterday I backed up, wiped, and reinstalled my whole system. It’s still not totally set up yet, but it’s much, much faster than before. Whatever that particular problem was, I’m sure that my computer was seriously bogged down with years of junk.
